Compassionately!

I believe that if more people simply moved toward more plant-based choices — even partway — the world would be a better place. It’s not about being “all or nothing.” It’s about waking up to the power you have with every meal to help animals, the environment, and your own health. Even small changes add up.

At The Savage Feast, the focus isn’t on judgment. It’s about inspiration. I didn’t grow up vegan. I ate meat and dairy most of my life. So I understand how deeply ingrained it is in our culture, our habits, and even our idea of what a "meal" looks like. I’m not here to make anyone feel guilty. Instead, I'm here to share how choosing a plant-based life has become one of the most satisfying, creative, and compassionate changes I've ever made.

Over the past four and a half years of being vegan, my love for it has only deepened. Every season brings new discoveries, especially when much of what we eat comes from our own garden. There’s something profoundly satisfying in knowing that no living being was harmed for the food on your plate — that your meal carries only compassion, inspiration, and intention. And that intention doesn’t just stay in the kitchen; it spills over into every part of life. You find yourself paying more attention, being more present, and extending that compassion to the world around you.

Veganism isn’t about trying to replace exactly what you used to eat; it’s about opening yourself up to new foods and new flavors. Sure, pizza might not be the cheesy, greasy thing it once was — but it could be a flatbread layered with vibrant sauces like a vegan pesto, smoky tomatoes, or roasted vegetables that are so full of life they don’t need the old standbys.

And yes — side note — vegan cheese has come a long way. Good things are coming!

At The Feast part of this blog, you’ll find not just recipes, but techniques, ideas, and tips for making vegetables shine. Things like smoking tomatoes to add incredible depth to sauces, soups, and spreads. Or learning simple ways to make a vegetable you've only ever eaten steamed burst with flavor and excitement. There’s so much more flavor, texture, and satisfaction waiting once you start looking at vegetables as the stars of the plate, not the sidekicks.

Vegan cooking is a challenge sometimes — but it's the kind of challenge that sparks creativity, not frustration. And I hope that here at The Savage Feast, you’ll find the tools, the inspiration, and the encouragement to make your own journey into plant-based living a joyful one.
